WITHDRAWN Pre-Geophysical Investigations of Golbasi Soils After February 6th 2023 Kahramanmaras Earthquakes
WITHDRAWN On February 6th, 2023, earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred in Pazarcik/Kahramanmaras and Elbistan/Kahramanmaras/Turkey, respectively, with depths of 9 km and 7 km and at UTC times of 01:17 and 11:24. These earthquakes caused significant loss of life and property in Eastern Turkey and Northern Syria. The district of Golbasi in the province of Adiyaman was one of the areas highly affected by the earthquakes due to both the bearing capacity loss of the soil and the location of the Pazarcik Segment of the Eastern Anatolian Fault Zone passing through the district center. Two days after the earthquake, the earthquake research and application center team from Dokuz Eylul University conducted preliminary field observations in the region. Structural damage in Golbasi was observed to be the result of soil-bearing capacity losses and possible liquefaction. It is known that the ground in Golbasi is composed of ancient lake sediments. It is considered that site soils in the region has caused significant soil amplification if they are highly plastic whereas large deformations and dependent attenuation took place in low plastic clays with silt. Therefore, it is essential to determine shear-wave velocity distribution as part of this study, microtremor measurements were taken at a total of 32 points with a 300 m sampling interval in the Golbasi district to establish an initial database that could be easily extended by further measurements to be made in intermediate locations. As a result of the microtremor measurements, the predominant vibration period of the region, the Kg damage index parameter, and the shear wave velocity models in 1, 2, and 3 dimensions via a forward and inverse solution of the HVSR curves were calculated, and presented.
