WITHDRAWN USGS Earthquake Hazard Toolbox
Description:
WITHDRAWN The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake hazards website (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/hazards/) is the central distribution point for the National Seismic Hazard Models (NSHMs), maps, and data for the United States and its territories. The USGS Earthquake Hazard Toolbox (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/nshmp) provides web applications and documents web services that stakeholders use to interactively access USGS NSHMs. Although the toolbox provides probabilistic hazard and disaggregation calculations, it also provides access to the earthquake rupture forecast (ERF) and ground motion characterization (GMC) components of the USGS NSHMs. The toolbox is under continual development and recent additions include a magnitude-frequency distribution plotter, support for geographic disaggregation, and an engineering focused risk-targeted ground motion calculator and plotter. The toolbox is also starting to serve as a documentation endpoint for web services for design ground motions and other engineering applications. Here we provide an overview of the USGS Earthquake Hazard Toolbox architecture and review the features that will be of use to earthquake scientists and engineers, geologists, and risk modelers. We seek feedback on the toolbox to focus and frame future development efforts, so that we might support the broadest possible array of users going forward.
